Jersey and Kuwait Secure Spots in Cricket World Cup 2027 Qualifier Play-off: Jersey and Kuwait have taken an important step towards their dream of qualifying for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 after finishing in the top two positions in their Challenge League A group.
Both teams have secured their places in the next stage of the qualification process, which will be played in Kenya later this year.
Jersey enjoyed an impressive campaign, winning most of their matches and losing just two out of 15. Their consistent performances helped them finish at the top of the table, five points ahead of second-placed Kuwait.
Kuwait, meanwhile, had to wait a little longer to confirm their qualification. A strong finish towards the end of the campaign, combined with dropped points by their closest competitors, helped them secure the second spot.
They finished seven points ahead of Denmark, who were unable to keep up after suffering important defeats against Kenya and Papua New Guinea during the final stage of the competition.
With their qualification confirmed, Jersey and Kuwait will now move on to the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier Play-off. The eight-team tournament will also feature Italy and Uganda, who finished in the top two of Challenge League B, along with the bottom four teams from Cricket World Cup League 2.
The upcoming tournament will be particularly important as it will decide the final four teams that progress to the Cricket World Cup Qualifier. It will also carry One Day International (ODI) status, making it a historic occasion for Kuwait, who will play their first-ever ODIs during the competition.

Jersey, on the other hand, have some experience at this level. They played five ODIs in the previous edition of the Qualifier Play-off in 2023 and managed to secure one victory against Papua New Guinea.
Canada, Nepal and the United Arab Emirates have already finished among the bottom four teams in League 2 and will also compete in the play-off. The final position, however, remains dependent on the result of the last match involving Oman and the UAE.
Oman currently occupy fourth place, but Namibia still have a mathematical chance of overtaking them. Oman will need to avoid a heavy defeat against the UAE to hold on to their position and secure direct qualification for the Cricket World Cup Qualifier. Otherwise, Namibia could take their place.
Meanwhile, the United States, Scotland and the Netherlands have already secured top-four finishes in League 2 and booked their places directly in the Cricket World Cup Qualifier.
With four more spots up for grabs, the upcoming play-off promises to be an important opportunity for the eight competing teams. For countries like Kuwait, Italy, Uganda and Jersey, it is another chance to move closer to the biggest stage in international cricket and keep their World Cup dreams alive.
