Glenn Maxwell retires from International Cricket: Australia all-rounder Glenn Maxwell calls time on his international career. On 2nd November, Cricinfo reported that the Aussie veteran had decided to retire from international cricket. This came as a shock to fans, but the 38-year-old Maxwell was already closing in on retirement.
Maxwell had not played an international game since February 2026, when he was last seen playing against Oman in the ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Representing Australia, he scored more than 7,000 runs and took 136 wickets. While consistency was an issue, Maxwell still had a decorated CV with many match-winning performances. In the 2023 ODI World Cup, he single-handedly saved Australia from embarrassment against Afghanistan with his maiden ODI double hundred.

Maxwell always justified his nickname, “The Big Show.” He was indeed a big-match player, and with his insane match-winning ability, he won 12 Man of the Match awards each in ODIs and T20Is. In particular, Maxwell was Afghanistan’s nightmare. He averaged 113 in T20Is and 147 in ODIs against Afghanistan. His famous double hundred in an ODI run chase also came against Afghanistan.
His decorated career also saw him win two ODI World Cups and one T20 World Cup with Australia. In 2025, Maxwell retired from ODIs. Afterwards, he continued to play T20I and league cricket, where “The Big Show” always remained relevant. However, with plenty of new talent available and the age factor taken into consideration, Glenn Maxwell finally announced his retirement from international cricket.
