Mohammed Shami Bids Farewell to Test Cricket: Indian pace bowler Mohammed Shami has bid farewell to Test cricket. On 6 November, Shami announced his retirement in an emotional message, telling fans that Test cricket isn’t just a format for him but a very special part of his life. He thanked his coaches, the fans, the BCCI and the Cricket Association of Bengal for their support throughout his journey.
In 122 innings, Shami took 229 Test wickets for India. He claimed six five-wicket hauls and also scored a couple of Test half-centuries. His last Test for India was back in 2023, the World Test Championship final at The Oval, where he took four wickets. Although India lost that match, Shami was a genuine match-winner for India throughout his career because of his wicket-taking ability.

Shami made his Test debut against the West Indies in Kolkata. He took nine wickets in that match and showed the world why he is so special. He retires as India’s sixth-highest wicket-taking pacer in Tests. Only six Indian pacers have taken more than 200 Test wickets, and among them, only Bumrah has a better bowling average than Shami.
India had moved on from Shami in Test cricket long ago, but he remains a contender in white-ball cricket. He last played international cricket for India in February–March 2025, and he surely has his eyes set on selection for the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup.
