Anisa Mohammed, Hayley Jensen Star with the ball, as TKR Wins Women’s CPL 2022:

The Trinbago Knight Riders won the first Massy Women’s Caribbean Premier League with a 10-run victory over the Barbados Royals thanks to a captain’s knock from Deandra Dottin and brilliant bowling from Anisa Mohammed.

Dottin, the captain of the Knight Riders, excelled when her side was put into bat, scoring the first half-century in WCPL history and guiding her team to a respectable first-innings score of 100/7.

The best bowler for the Royals was Hayley Matthews, who finished with 3/22 after taking three wickets in the 19th over, including the crucial one of Dottin.

Aaliyah Alleyne and Britney Cooper responded by leaving early in the pursuit. Aaliyah Alleyne was dismissed by Hayley Jensen. Hayley Matthews dug in and appeared to hold the key to guiding her team home. But as wickets kept falling at the other end, she was also dismissed for 46.

The Knight Riders were in control with just the tail to finish off. Anisa Mohammed would take the final wicket and complete the game with 3/16 as her team finished off the Royals for 90.

It was a significant occasion for the Trinbago Knight Riders and for women’s cricket following a historic tournament as their male counterparts looked on and the world’s attention was focused on the match.

The Knight Riders’ at-bat performance didn’t get off to the spectacular start they might have anticipated, and just as the boundaries started coming in, Kirby was cheaply dismissed.

Before Chloe Tryon, a South African teammate of Sune Luus who hadn’t yet bowled in the competition, dismissed the captain of her country to put the Royals in control with the Knight Riders at 43/2, Dottin and Luus started to pick up speed.

Denadra Dottin was dismissed for 59 off 62 by Matthews, who also dismissed Kyshona Knight and Jannillea Glasgow in the same over.

The Royals’ openers blasted out of the gate and reached 14 off the opening two overs, but the chase became more difficult when Alleyne fell for 7 and Cooper shortly after without scoring. The game was on the line and all hopes rested on Matthews with the Royals at 36/3 when Tryon was stumped just as the rebuild began.

As the wickets kept falling, a crucial moment occurred when Matthews was unable to clear Glasgow at mid-wicket with 13 needed off of 12. She made 46, leaving her team with a 12-point deficit after 10.

The bowling of Anisa Mohammed, who cleaned up the tail and sent Mandy Mangru’s bails flying, was too much for the tailenders. Anisa finished with 3/16 while Hayely Jensen took 2/18.
