Pakistan’s chief selector recently announced a 18-men squad for the upcoming Test series against England.

Two new faces were introduced to the big stage – Mohammad Ali and Abrar Ahmed. While fans are mostly aware of the name and capabilities of Abrar, many don’t know how vital Ali can be for Pakistan in the upcoming series.

Who is Mohammad Ali?

Ali is a right-arm pacer, hailing from Sialkot. The 30-year-old has represented Central Punjab and Zarai Taraqiati Bank Limited (ZTBL).

Besides FC, Ali has also played 12 List A games and 3 T20s.

Why is Ali in the Pakistan test squad?

Ali who is representing Central Punjab in the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy made it into the squad on the back of strong performances.

The right-arm pacer has bagged the experience of playing 22 First-class games and scratched up 85 wickets to his name.

Ali has taken 56 wickets in the last two editions of the QEA Trophy – the most by any bowler. Moreover, his controlled line and length also made him an economical bowler. Since 2021, the pacer has also taken four five-wicket hauls.

In the ongoing edition of the QEA Trophy, the Sialkot-born has picked 24 wickets – most by any fast bowler in the tournament.

Ali’s reaction after earning a maiden call up:

In an exclusive interview, Ali was overjoyed after receiving the news of his maiden call up.

“I can’t express my happiness in words. I’m speechless at the moment,” Ali said while speaking to a local media channel.

“Hard work always pays off, and that is what I have always believed in,” he added.

Pakistan’s new entrance to the squad – Ali – has three incredible role models in the name of Dale Steyn, Shane Bond, and Shoaib Akhtar.

The above-mentioned Test series is all set to kickstart from 1st December. The English team will play three games at three different venues – Rawalpindi, Multan, and Karachi.
