Rawalpindi to Host Karachi’s Scheduled Test Against Bangladesh

Rawalpindi to Host Karachi’s Scheduled Test Against Bangladesh: In light of the ongoing redevelopment of the National Bank Stadium and the deployment of heavy construction equipment, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), in consultation with the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), has announced the relocation of the second ICC World Test Championship fixture to Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium. This decision ensures that cricket fans can enjoy the live action of both Tests, providing a preview of an intense international season for Pakistan cricket.

The National Bank Stadium is undergoing significant renovations in preparation for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Construction experts have advised that while work could continue during playing hours, the noise pollution would disrupt the cricketers, and dust from the construction could affect the health and well-being of players, officials, broadcasters, and media personnel. Consequently, the PCB has decided to move both Tests to Rawalpindi to maintain the integrity and safety of the matches.

August 21 is the scheduled start date of the first test in Rawalpindi, while August 30 is the scheduled start date of the second test. This relocation allows cricket enthusiasts to watch both Tests live and marks the beginning of a busy and hectic international season for Pakistan, with the national side set to play 9 Tests, 14 T20Is, and at least 17 ODIs from 21st August to 5th April.

The building specialists have provided us with guidance regarding the deadlines for the venue’s readiness. They said that although the building may go on while cricket matches were in session, the noise pollution that would ensue would keep the cricket players awake. A PCB representative said, “In addition, the dust from the building activity could also impair the players’, officials’, broadcasters’, and media’s health and wellness.

In order to guarantee the safe and secure hosting of upcoming games at the National Bank Stadium, the PCB will continue to collaborate closely with architects and construction specialists, while keeping the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) updated on developments. At this stage, speculation on the hosting of the second Test in Karachi from 15-19 October is being avoided.

The PCB’s proactive measures aim to balance the needs of the construction schedule with the importance of providing uninterrupted cricket entertainment to fans, ensuring both progress and enjoyment in the lead-up to the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
