Morne Morkel to join NZ Women team as a coach:
Former South African pacer, Morne Morkel, is set to join New Zealand Women’s team as a Tour Coach for the upcoming Women’s T20 World cup in February.
The African quick is currently serving as the bowling coach for the Durban’s Super Giants in SA20 and will join the Kiwi women before their opener against Australia on 11th February. Apart from coaching the aforementioned franchise, the 38 year old has also been a part of Namibia’s coaching staff during the latest T20 World cup. Morkel deems this opportunity as a great way to build experience and share his knowledge of the game.
“The women’s game is growing so rapidly around the world, and this a great opportunity for me to build experience in the women’s game and share my knowledge of international cricket to help this team get better,” the pacer said after the news of his appointment was made public.
He also added that he has been following the women’s game for a few years now.
“I’ve been following the women’s game and the WHITE FERNS closely over the last couple of years, especially since moving to Australia and seeing their players who have played in the Women’s Big Bash.”
The Black Caps women will announce their squad for the upcoming mega T20 event on 20th January following which the players will depart for South Africa.
