Young Kiwi Star Eden Carson Retained In White Ferns Squad For West Indies Tour:
Off Spinner Eden Carson has kept her position in the White Ferns squad for this month’s visit of the West Indies.
Three players have gotten back to the White Ferns for their visit of the West Indies after missing their Commonwealth Games campaign.
Batter Lauren Down and pacers Jess Kerr and Molly Penfold were named in the 15-strong squad for the visit to the Caribbean.
Wicketkeeper Jess McFadyen and seamers Claudia Green and Rosemary Mair were the three players to make way from the group that won the bronze medal at the T20 competition in Birmingham last month.
“It’s an exciting time for the entire squad and especially the three players making their comebacks,” Coach Ben Sawyer said in a statement.
“We’ve seen the success Jess has enjoyed on the international stage in her career to date and it’s been encouraging to see her working her direction back from injury, and training with the London Spirt here in the Hundred lately.”
Canterbury Magicians all-rounder Lea Tahuhu has held her position in the squad subsequent to dazzling as a substitution for Kerr at the Commonwealth Games.
The squad sees the retention of the four youngsters who so dazzled in Birmingham: wicket-keeper Izzy Gaze (18), Wellington Blaze batter Georgia Plimmer (18), Auckland Hearts left-arm spinner Fran Jonas (18), and Otago Spark off break bowler Eden Carson (21).
Sawyer, who’s been working with Sophie Devine at the Birmingham Phoenix in the Hundred, said the squad for the West Indies was going through various preparations ahead of the visit.
With the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup to be held in South Africa next February, Sawyer said the side would naturally be pursuing that competition, and looking to take momentum from their recent outcome in Birmingham.
