Women’s IPL media rights sold for $116.7 million:
Earlier on 16th January, the Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI) in India revealed that Viacom18 Media, an entertainment and media joint venture between Network18 and Paramount Global, has won the media rights for next five editions of the Women’s Indian Premier League.
Viacom18 Media has paid a thumping $116.7 million to buy the rights for the 2023-2027 cycle of the league. This means a single match value of the nascent league will be $0.86 million. Viacom18 also bagged two digital packages in the last year’s bid for media rights to the Men’s IPL by committing a total of $3 Billion. Sharing this news of sealing the deal with Viacom18, the Secretary of BCCI, Jay Shah, tweeted.

“Congratulations Viacom18 for winning the Women’s IPL media rights. Thank you for your faith in BCCI and BCCI Women. Viacom has committed INR 951 crores which means per match value of INR 7.09 crores for next 5 years (2023-27). This is massive for Women’s Cricket.”
Reportedly the Media group, co-owned by the Indian Business tycoon Mukesh Ambani, outbid many contenders including Disney Star, Sony and Zee in Mumbai.
The women’s cricket T20 league will be played in March with a total of five teams, the auction for which will be held soon, competing against each other.
