BBL12: All you Need to know including Schedule and Squads
The 12th Season of Australia’s premier T20 competition, the Big Bash League (BBL) is all set to commence from 13th of December. In this article, you will find all the key information which you would need to know about the league, including all the squads and fixtures of the tournament.
When is it?
BBL 12 begins from December 13 and is almost a two months long tournament consisting of 61 matches in total. The opening fixture will be played on Tuesday, 13th of December in Canberra between the Melbourne Stars and Sydney Thunders.
The group stage of the tournament will consist of 56 matches and will finish on Wednesday, 25th of January. The top five sides will then progress to the knock-out stages, which will begin from Friday, 27th of January and will end with the Final being played on Saturday, 4th of February.

The Format:
The format of the tournament involves each of the teams playing each other twice in the group stages, playing fourteen matches in total in the group stages. The top five teams then progress to the next stage and fight in knockout games for the trophy.
The fourth and fifth-placed teams contest against each other in the eliminator, with the winner going on to face the third-placed team in the knockout. The top two sides get a golden opportunity to qualify directly for the final as they play against each other in the Qualifier with the winner earning direct entry to the final, however the looser gets a second shot to make it through to the final as they face the winner of the knockout fixture in the Challenger game where a place in the final is at stake.
Each win is worth two points, whereas one point is awarded for matches which end in no result. A few rules have been changed this year which means The Bash Boost point, which saw the team with the most runs at the 10-over mark receive a bonus point, is no longer available while the X-factor substitution has also been removed.
The power surge rule however which was introduced in the last edition is still valid, which means that the matches begin with a four-over power play rather than the traditional six, with the batting side able to call for a two-over power play at any point from the 11th over onwards.
Teams and Previous Winner:
Eight teams are involved in the tournament which include two teams from Sydney (Sixers and Thunders) and Melbourne (Renegades and Stars) with Perth Scorchers, Hobart Hurricanes, Brisbane Heat and Adelaide Strikers being the other sides.
The winners of the BBL season 11 were Perth Scorchers, who defeated Sydney Sixers in the Final to claim their fourth Big Bash league title. Hobart Hurricanes and Melbourne Stars are the only sides who are yet to get their hands on the trophy, while Melbourne Renegades have finished last consecutively for the past three years.

BBL 12 is the first edition where a foreign players draft was introduced, and each team was able to pick their foreign players including retentions through this draft.
