Expected Date For IPL 2023 Auction Revealed:

According to a report by the Times of India, the auction for the 16th season of the famous Indian Premier League is set to take place on the 16th of December. Unlike the mega-auction of last year, which according to the rules takes place after every 3 years, this year’s auction will be a mini-auction, allowing franchises to retain a greater number of players than last time.

Reports also have it that the purse for the franchises will be 95 crore INR, which makes it 5 crores INR higher than the last time. However, franchises can increase their purse by trading away or releasing the players. The one-day event is expected to be staged in Bengaluru.

Apart from that, after an extended gap of three years, the ten-team tournament will return to the home and away format, as told by the incumbent chairman of BCCI, Sourav Ganguly, in his report to state associations.

It is better to state here that due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the BCCI was unable to implement this format in the last 3 seasons. In 2020, after delaying the celebrated league for nearly 6 months, the BCCI hosted it in UAE in September. Similarly, in 2021, the increasing number of players contracting COVID virus during the season forced the league to be suspended indefinitely with plans of rescheduling it later, thus dividing it into two halves, the latter of which was, again, played in UAE. Although, the 2022 season was fully held in India, but due to a limited number of venues that were allowed to host matches, the home and away format could not return. This season, however, will see each team play matches at their designated home venues, during the March window as chosen by the BCCI.

With the return of the pre-Covid format and the introduction of the Women’s Indian Premiere League, this year’s IPL season has the essential ability to outdo the previous ones. All eyes await the 16th of December to see who ropes in the best players to gain dominance over the others before the start of the season.
