A change in T20I captaincy on the cards as Apex Council Meeting set to take place:
According to the most recent developments, Indian all-rounder Hardik Pandya is poised to succeed Rohit Sharma as India’s new T20I captain.
There have been talks surrounding Pandya taking the helm of the T20I team with a new lineup, at least in the shortest format after India’s disastrous elimination from the T20 World Cup 2022.
The BCCI’s Apex Council Meeting which is set to take place on December 21, will most likely result in the appointment of the all-rounder as the new skipper.
Pandya, who helped Gujarat Titans win their first IPL title this year, also led India’s T20I team in matches against Ireland and New Zealand earlier this year. He is a prominent candidate due to his strong leadership abilities and tactical mindset.
Additionally, according to reports, Rohit Sharma may be replaced by a number of other well-known players from the T20I side. The 35-year-old succeeded Virat Kohli as India’s T20 captain after the team’s dismal performance in the T20 World Cup 2021.
Rohit Sharma has outperformed MS Dhoni as India’s second-most successful T20I captain in his career. He has captained India in 51 T20I matches, winning 39 of them.
Following are the agendas for the Apex Council Meeting, as reported:
· The New Selection panel is appointed WA
· Cricket players with central contracts, both men and women
· The new T20I coach’s appointment
· Policies for managing injuries
· Call on Pink-Ball Test between India and Australia based on India’s results in the Asia Cup and T20 World Cup
