For the second year in a row, Muhammad Huraira ends the first-class cricket competition of Pakistan as the highest scorer. The 20 year old helped his team, Northern, demolish the Sarfaraz Ahmed-led Sindh by scoring a magnificent double century in the final match. This double ton eventually helped his side lift their maiden Quaid e Azam trophy. This is not the first time for the young sensation, Huraira, where he left everyone open-mouthed while his bat did the talking. In the last edition of the same competition, the 20-year old became the second youngest Pakistani batter to score a triple century in first class after Pakistan’s great Javed Miandad.
In an interview with ICA sports correspondent, Muhammad Huraira talked about his performance throughout the tournament. The young cricketer said that he tries to learn new things each day as there is always room for improvement.
“As you have mentioned satisfaction, I think there is always room for improvement. I always come with a new challenge for myself and try to learn new things each day. This is my only approach; to learn new things everyday and strive to be a better version of myself.”
The Sialkot-born, when asked about his inspiration in batting, said that he looks up to Kane Williamson and Babar Azam as an opener along with that he tries to pick positive things from all the top batsmen in the World right now including Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Steve Smith and Joe Root.
The right-handed batter and the player of the match in the final of Quaid e Azam trophy said while talking about the mindset he enters the ground with, “I try to play every ball on its merit and also try not to consume a lot of time judging and adjusting to the pitch. Once I have adjusted, I just play my shots [freely].”

Just like any good cricketer, the Pakistani batter tries to apply whatever he has learned from greats of the game during Pakistan’s premier league, PSL, to his batting to ace in the other formats as well.
“Definitely it [PSL] has an impact [on youngster’s game]. Top players from the world come to play, you share a dressing room with them and find new things to learn. I have learnt a lot from PSL and now I am trying to apply those things to my batting which can help me put a good show in the T20 format as well.”
Huraira who has been phenomenal in the trophy, although, could not get call up like his fellow conpetitors Abrar Ahmed and Muhammad Ali for the ongoing English Test series, his consistent performances are promising enough to see him wear the start jersey one day. It merits a mention here that the young batsman has amassed a ginormous total of 1084 in 18 innings during this season of the competition, ending as the topper in the table.
