Shocking IPL 2023 Complete Release and Retention List:
The auction for the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League (IPL) is scheduled to be staged in mid-December this year. Ahead of the Auction, franchises were asked to submit the list of players they want to retain and release by 15th November. All ten franchises released and retained a few and few players were traded between the franchises as well. In total the ten franchises released 163 players and 85 players were released. Pat Cummins, Sam Billings and Alex Hales withdrew from the league before the lists were made public citing workload issues.Let us see which players will stay with the franchises this year and who have been released:
Royal Challengers Bangalore:
Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore have no IPL trophy in their cabinet at the moment. Surely, the RCB will be eyeing to bag their maiden IPL trophy this year and for that a dynamic playing XI is a must-have.The Bangalore team has released 5 players while retained 18 players from its squad of last year.
Players released: Jason Behrendorff, Aneeshwar Gautam, Chama Milind, Luvnith Sisodia, Sherfane Rutherford.

Royal Challengers Bangalore have a total purse of 8.75 crore as of now which they can utilize on roping in players at the Auction in December as they have 2 overseas slots remaining to be filled.
Mumbai Indians:
The five times IPL champions, more than any other franchise, have released a lot of their players including their giant star Kieron Pollard who has been appointed as the team’s coach following his retirement news. Following is the list of players which will stay and the players who will have to bid farewell to the most successful side of IPL:

Lucknow Super Giants:
Led by KL Rahul, Lucknow Super Giants player their debut season in 2022 along the title winners Gujarat Titans and were successful to reach the playoffs of their maiden season. LSG have retained 15 players from their last edition’s squad and released 8 players. Astonishingly, they have released West Indian bowler Jason Holder as well. Rest of the released players are:

The Super giants have retained the following players:

The Lucknow team has the 3rd highest purse after announcing their retained and released players list. They can have 4 overseas players to fill in the slots reserved for them.
Rajasthan Royals:
Rajasthan Royals, the winners of the inaugural IPL season, have released 9 players while 16 will remain with the side this year as well. The Kiwi duo Daryl Mitchell and James Neesham are of those released by the Rajasthan team. The list of retained and released players is:

Delhi Capitals:
Delhi Capitals have not made a lot of changes to their team as they have released only 5 players, those too were not regular in the yester season. The Delhi team has retained 19 players and traded Aman Khan from Kolkata Knight Riders in place of Shardul Thakur. They now have INR 19.45 crore in their purse and 2 slots remaining to rope in overseas players at the Auction in December. Retained and released players of the Capitals are:

The Defending champions have retained 18 players and have let go of 6 players, from which two (Lockie Ferguson and Rahmanullah Gurbaz) were traded off to Kolkata Knight Riders. With a purse of 19.25 crore, the Titans can fill the remaining 3 slots with some quality overseas players during Auction.

Kolkata Knight Riders have two IPL trophies in their bags currently and a third one can help them regain their momentum which was lost after last edition’s abysmal performance. The Knight Riders have released 16 players, most by any franchise this year. Besides that they have traded Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Lockie Ferguson and Shardul Thakur from other franchises as well. All the trades, retention and releases have left them with a purse of INR 7.05 crore, making them the franchise with the lowest purse to begin the auction with. It must be noted here that the Knight riders have 3 empty slots for overseas players.

The team is one of the three teams who have never won an IPL trophy. Apart from that, their performance in last season was not very promising too, which eventually saw them being knocked out of the tournament before reaching play-offs. Interestingly, the Kings have only reached the play-offs once in their IPL journey so far. The Punjab team has released 9 players including captain Mayank Agarwal. Rest of the players who have been released by the franchise are:

Chennai Super Kings:
After finishing 9th in the last edition, the franchise was expected to make big changes. However, they have only released 8 players including Dwayne Bravo, who they had released in the last edition as well but bought him again in the Auction. Robin Uthappa, who announced his retirement a few weeks ago, is one of the released players as well. 18 players have been retained while 2 overseas slots will wait till the Auction to be filled. Sunrisers Hyderabad finished at the 8th position in the last edition. This has forced them to bring forth major changes as they have released 12 players including the captain Kane Williamson. They have the highest purse of INR 42.25 crore and can buy Williamson again at the Auction as they will be in a dire need of a Skipper. 12 players have been retained by the Sunrisers and have 4 empty overseas slots in their team as well.
