Expected Lineups | Match Prediction | India vs Bangladesh Match Preview:
The face-off between the Asian neighbours, Bangladesh and India will be the first encounter of teams from the second group after the spell-binding and nerve-wracking contests on Sunday. Both teams will play in Adelaide Oval after the Zimbabwe and Netherlands encounter.
India, who were unbeaten in the tournament before South Africa thrashed them for a 5 wicket win in the Gabba, stand at the second position in the table. Their defeat forced them to swap positions with the Proteas. This match with Bangladesh must be bagged by the Indian team if they wish to reserve their place in the next round without facing any ifs and buts. The loss against the African team not only cost them points but also lowered their NRR, which can prove to be a problem for Rohit’s men should they lose this match.
With two wins in their bag, the Bengal tigers are occupying the third place in the table. Interestingly, in the second group, their NRR is better than the Netherlands only. To avoid bringing the decision of their qualification to the next round to NRR, Shakib’s men must get the victory in both of their remaining clashes to their name. Not only that, they will have to beat both Asian giants, Pakistan and India, by huge margins to stay in the race. The Shakib-led men will have to push their limits in order to complete this tough task.
HEAD TO HEAD:
Bangladesh have only won once against India in T20Is out of the 11 times both teams met in T20Is. The mighty Indian team has won the remaining 10 matches.
WEATHER AND PITCH CONDITIONS:
Although there is a forecast of 1 to 2 mm of rain on Wednesday, the chances will be reduced in the evening when the match is due to be played. With any luck, both teams will have a match unaffected by rain.
The flat pitch of Adelaide Oval will welcome the batters with open arms. For Indian batters, in particular, the pitch will be a sight for sore eyes after the Gabba’s grassy pitch took a toll on them in their recent outing. The pitch offers bounce, but unlike other venues down under, the bounce here is inconsistent, the swing and turn, although, is phenomenal.
Absence of true bounce can create difficulty for batsmen while reading the ball in initial overs, hence, the pacers will thrive during this stage. Spinners will have their say, especially during the middle overs.
The straight boundaries are large and to hit maximums and fours down the ground, the batsman will need to use his maximum strength. However, square boundaries, owing to their size, are a much easier and recommended target. Batsmen often cut and pull shots towards the 60-65 metre square boundary and easily make the ball collide with the boundary line.A high scoring match is not a rarity here owing to the drop-in pitch, quick outfield and other conditions that make this pitch apple of a batter’s eyes.
PLAYING XI(PROBABLE):
Bangladesh: Soumya Sarkar, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Litton Das, Shakib Al Hasan, Afif Hossain, Nurul Hasan (wk), Mosaddek Hossain, Yasir Ali, Taskin Ahmed, Mustafizur Rahman, Hasan Mahmud.
India: Kl Rahul, Rohit Sharma (c), Virat Kohli, Deepak Hooda, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Dinesh Karthik(wk)/Rishabh Pant, R Ashwin, Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Arshdeep Singh.
PREDICTION:
Both Asian teams have a competent pace attack who will be looking to prey on batters while taking assistance from the pitch. The pace attack will be further supported by the spinners who will be upbeat to bowl here and use the turn this ground provides to hoodwink the batters.
Batting lineups of both teams will, however, create the disparity and give one an edge over the other.The Indian lineup adorned with some of the best batsmen in the world will be unstoppable on a pitch like this. On the other hand, the Bangladesh batters, although are in good touch and have a decent style of playing as well, will have a difficult task trying to match the classy batting of the Indian team. This can create problems for the Bangladesh team in Adelaide Oval on Wednesday. Hence, the favourites for the match are the men in blue.
