New Zealand thrash defending champions Australia in Super 12 opener:
A long 11-year wait has been ended. New Zealand beat Australia in December 2011 in Australia, but this win makes it more special for New Zealand as they completely dominated the game today.
Aaron Finch won the toss and elected to bowl first in the first match of the T20 World Cup (Super 12).

Kane Williamson and Conway shared another crucial partnership of 69 runs, but Williamson got out by Adam Zampa. But Devon Conway continued his superb batting and helped New Zealand to get a very good total on the board and set a target of 201 runs. Devon Conway played a wonderful knock of 92 runs on 58 balls and smashed 7 fours and 2 sixes.
In the first innings, Australia’s bowlers looked befuddled against New Zealand. Australia got only 3 wickets off New Zealand. Josh Hazlewood was their top wicket-taker. He got 2 wickets with an economy of 10.25.

New Zealand bowler Tim Southee got the first and important breakthrough for his team as David Warner got out on the first delivery of the second over. The New Zealand bowlers didn’t stop there.
They got two more wickets off Australian Captain Aaron Finch and Mitchell Marsh in the powerplay.Marcus Stoinis as walking towards the Pavilion on just 7 runs when team Australia looked at him to get some more runs, but Santner got his wicket, but the catch deserves special mention because Phillips took an exceptional catch of Stoinis.
New Zealand’s bowling was outstanding today, as Australia managed only 111 runs and New Zealand won the first game by 89 runs.

Devon Conway was named player of the match for his magnificent 92-run innings, which he batted in all 20 overs of today’s game.
