Retentions and Surprises: A Recap of the First Ever Women’s Hundred Draft
On Thursday night, the first-ever women’s Hundred draft was staged. Each club made between four and six selections to complete their squads, having earlier kept between two and four players from the 2022 class.
First-picking, Welsh Fire attempted to sign Sophie Devine and Danni Wyatt, but remained unsuccessful as Birmingham Phoenix and Southern Brave utilized their Right-To-Match cards to retain their players. They ultimately chose Sophia Dunkley as their first choice.
On being retained by Welsh Fire Sophie Devine said, “I had such a good time with the Phoenix last year, and Edgbaston is one of the best grounds to play cricket. With tournaments like this, you can’t still and that’s what makes it really exciting.”
