Wet Melbourne scares cricket fans around the World:
This year’s T20 World cup was, hands down, the most action-packed World cup so far. Thrillers, upsets, packed stadiums and pumped players made the whole tourney unforgettable. However, the end to this exhilarating event might not be what many people wanted.
The MCG is where both teams, England and Pakistan, will meet to play the title-decider on Sunday, it is also where a 100% chance of heavy rain is expected, as per the Bureau of Meteorology. For knockout matches a minimum play of 10 overs per side is needed for the match to get out of the dangers of washout, but with a prediction of 10-20 mm rain in sight, even 10 overs seem too much.
Monday has been allocated as the reserve day but the cruel clouds are expected to soak the G wet on that day as well. This can lead to the trophy being shared between both teams, which, if occurs, will be the first time in the history of T20 World Cups.
The first preference will, obviously, be to complete the match on Sunday, even with a curtail in overs, if needed. If the match starts with reduced overs and stops due to rain at any point, the next day will be used to resume the match from the same point where it was stopped.
However, if even after the reduction in overs, the rain does not allow the play to begin, the whole 20-over match will be shifted to the next day, which is the reserve day.
