Rizwan Hits Career-Best in Test Rankings

Rizwan Hits Career-Best in Test Rankings: Pakistan’s wicketkeeper-batter Mohammad Rizwan has made a significant leap in the ICC Men’s Test Batting Rankings, achieving a career-best position among the top 10 for the first time. Rizwan’s stellar performances in the recent ICC World Test Championship series against Bangladesh in Rawalpindi have catapulted him into the elite group of Test batters. Rizwan’s impressive knocks of 171 not out and 51 in the first Test played a crucial role in Pakistan’s strong showing against Bangladesh. His unbeaten 171, which anchored Pakistan’s innings, showcased his resilience and adaptability in the longer format. This exceptional display has propelled him up the rankings, landing him in 10th place, a milestone in his Test career.

Meanwhile, England’s Harry Brook continues his ascent in the Test rankings, moving up three places to fourth position. Brook’s scores of 56 and 32 in the first Test against Sri Lanka in Manchester contributed to his rise. Just one spot shy of his career-best third position, Brook remains a key player in England’s batting lineup, especially following his second-innings century against the West Indies at Trent Bridge last month.

Bangladesh’s Mushfiqur Rahim has also reached a new peak, equalling his career-best 17th position in the Test rankings. Mushfiq’s magnificent 191 in the first Test against Pakistan was instrumental in Bangladesh’s victory, advancing him seven places in the rankings.

Other batters making strides in the rankings include Sri Lanka’s Dinesh Chandimal, who has climbed four places to 23rd, and Kamindu Mendis, who has jumped eight places to 36th. Bangladesh’s Liton Das has moved up two places to 27th, while England’s Jamie Smith has made a significant leap of 22 places to 42nd.

In the Test bowling rankings, England’s Chris Woakes has advanced four places to 16th after a strong performance against Sri Lanka, where he took three wickets in each innings. Sri Lanka’s Asitha Fernando has also made significant gains, moving up 10 places to 17th after a six-wicket haul in the same match. Pakistan’s Naseem Shah has climbed four places to 33rd, continuing to show promise as a key fast bowler. England’s Gus Atkinson and Matthew Potts have also made progress, rising to 42nd and 57th positions, respectively.

In the Men’s T20I Player Rankings, West Indies’ Nicholas Pooran has entered the top 10 following his consistent performances against South Africa in Trinidad. Pooran’s scores of 65 not out, 19, and 35 were pivotal in his team’s 3-0 series victory. In the bowling department, West Indies’ left-arm spinner Akeal Hosein has moved up four places to second position, thanks to his four wickets in three matches against South Africa. Gudakesh Motie, another left-arm spinner from the West Indies, has climbed 10 slots to sit just behind Hosein, while Romario Shepherd has advanced to 31st position.

Mohammad Rizwan’s rise to the top 10 in the Test Batting Rankings highlights his importance in Pakistan’s Test setup. His ability to perform under pressure and contribute significantly with the bat has made him one of the most reliable players in the format. As Pakistan continues its journey in the ICC World Test Championship, Rizwan’s form will be crucial to their success.
