Out of Form? Sanju Samson Silences Critics with 115 | There are innings that win matches—and then there are innings that reset narratives. On a warm evening in Chennai, Sanju Samson delivered the latter.

After a quiet start to his Indian Premier League campaign, the Chennai batter finally roared back into form with a breathtaking unbeaten 115 off just 56 balls, guiding his side to a convincing 23-run victory over the Delhi Capitals.

The early weeks of the season had not been kind to Samson. Scores of 6, 7, and 9 had raised questions about his rhythm, especially after his standout performances on the global stage.

His innings began cautiously, as if measuring the moment. But once settled, he shifted gears seamlessly—piercing gaps with precision and clearing the ropes with confidence. By the time he reached his century—his fourth in the IPL—he had turned doubt into dominance.

While Samson anchored the innings, 18-year-old Ayush Mhatre played the perfect supporting role. The youngster’s fluent 59 off 36 balls added momentum to Chennai’s total and showcased a maturity beyond his years. His knock, though cut short via retirement, gave Chennai the platform they needed to push past the 200-mark.
Together, the duo powered Chennai to an imposing 212 for 2.

Chasing a steep target, Delhi never quite found sustained momentum. While there were flashes of resistance, the required rate kept climbing, and Chennai’s bowlers maintained control in key moments. Delhi eventually closed at 189, falling short by 23 runs.

The victory couldn’t have come at a better time. After three consecutive losses, Chennai finally registered their first points of the season. The absence of their iconic former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni due to injury had only intensified the pressure—but Samson’s innings helped ease those concerns, at least for now.

Despite the win, Chennai still find themselves near the bottom of the table, sitting ninth with two points from four games. Delhi, meanwhile, remain in a stronger position, though this loss serves as a reminder of the fine margins in the competition.

For Samson, this wasn’t just a century—it felt like a statement. A reminder of his class, his composure, and his ability to deliver when expectations peak.
If this knock is any indication, Chennai’s season might just be getting started.
