Cricket Australia has announced new measures for the upcoming 13th edition of the men’s Big Bash League (BBL) and the women’s T20 tournament, the Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL).These measures include an increase in player salaries, the introduction of marquee players, and an increase in the total player payment pools.
In the men’s BBL, the highest-paid overseas players will now receive AUS$ 420,000 (US$280,000), which is a 23.5% increase from the previous edition. Additionally, each of the eight franchises must have at least six “marquee” players earning AUS$200,000 or more per season. This is intended to ensure that the league remains competitive in a dynamic market, with high-caliber players to choose from.
The total player payment pools for the men’s BBL have also increased from AUS$1.9 million to AUS$3 million per franchise. This means that there will be more money available for player salaries and other expenses.
The WBBL has also reconfigured its contracting system, with each franchise required to sign at least 13 players. There will also be a minimum salary of AUS$ 40,000 for WBBL players, which is an increase from the previous season.
