Mushtaq Ahmed Optimistic About Bangladesh’s Future Success

Mushtaq Ahmed Optimistic About Bangladesh’s Future Success: Bangladesh spin bowling coach Mushtaq Ahmed has expressed his gratitude to the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for their efficient handling of logistics following Bangladesh’s preponed arrival in Pakistan for the two-match Test series. The former leg-spinner emphasized that despite political turmoil back home, the Bangladesh team remains focused on cricket. The local curfew in Bangladesh hindered their preparation, prompting the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to advance their travel plans.

Bangladesh’s early arrival was facilitated by the PCB, who assured them of adequate preparation facilities for the Test series, part of the ICC Test Championship. “Practice was impossible in Bangladesh due to political turmoil. PCB was the first to call and invite us to arrive earlier, ensuring our team’s management. Credit goes to PCB for their support,” Mushtaq told reporters at Lahore Stadium, where Bangladesh is conducting a short camp before heading to Islamabad.

Mushtaq highlighted the strong relationship between the BCB and PCB, believing it will bolster the growth of cricket. “I believe that the link between BCB and PCB is positive. If they continue to support each other, cricket will grow stronger,” he said. He added that the team is excited and focused on the upcoming Test in Rawalpindi. “The situation’s effect has lessened, thanks to excellent management. Senior players like Shakib, Mushy, and Taskin are providing positive guidance. Our focus is now entirely on cricket.”

The coach is enjoying his stint with the Bangladesh national team, noting their coachability and potential. Mushtaq expects spinners to play a crucial role in the Test series, despite Pakistan’s batting-friendly pitches in recent years. In order to give fast bowlers a break and to secure wickets, spinners are an essential asset in Test cricket. Their role is vital, whether they take a few wickets or more. You need to support your match-winning spinners,” he said.

Mushtaq has already made a significant impact, guiding Rishad Hossain during the ICC T20 World Cup, where the leg-spinner emerged with 14 wickets. He hopes to achieve similar success with Test spinners. “My role is to provide tactical and technical advice, including pitch reading, angles, pace, and field placements. Taijul and Mehedi are experienced match-winners and good listeners. With them, hopefully, I can have an impact,” he continued.

The first test is set to begin on August 21 in Rawalpindi, and the second test is slated to begin on August 30 in Karachi. The Karachi Test will be played without spectators as the PCB renovates the National Bank Stadium for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy in 2025.
