MI Bottle Yet Another Chase Despite Hardik Pandya Brutal Blitz: In a high-octane encounter at the Wankhede Stadium, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) held their nerve to defeat Mumbai Indians (MI) by 12 runs in a last-over thriller. Batting first, RCB posted a mammoth 221/5, thanks to explosive half-centuries from Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar. Despite a valiant chase led by Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma, MI fell short as RCB’s bowlers delivered under pressure.

RCB’s Batting Onslaught

RCB got off to a shaky start as Trent Boult struck on the second ball, cleaning up Phil Salt with a sharp inswinger. However, Virat Kohli took charge from the outset, launching an aggressive assault. He welcomed Jasprit Bumrah with a towering six and raced to 36 off just 19 balls in the powerplay. Kohli anchored the innings with a classy 67 (42) before being dismissed by Hardik Pandya.

Skipper Rajat Patidar then took center stage, smashing a blistering 64 off 32 balls, including five fours and four sixes. Jitesh Sharma provided the late fireworks with a 19-ball 40, ensuring RCB crossed the 220-run mark. MI’s bowling struggled, with Boult (0/57) and Pandya (0/45) proving expensive.

MI’s Chase Falters Despite Hardik-Tilak Blitz

In reply, MI’s top order crumbled early. Rohit Sharma (17) was castled by a brilliant inswinger from Yash Dayal, while Suryakumar Yadav failed to make an impact. At 89/4, the game seemed slipping away, but Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma launched a stunning counterattack.

Hardik blazed 42 off just 15 balls, hammering Josh Hazlewood for 22 runs in an over and taking down Krunal Pandya for 19 in the 15th over. Tilak matched his captain’s aggression with a scintillating 56 (29), bringing MI back into contention. However, Bhuvneshwar Kumar broke the dangerous stand by removing Tilak, and Hazlewood redeemed himself by dismissing Hardik.

Krunal’s Last-Over Heroics Seal the Win

With 19 needed off the final over, Patidar handed the ball to Krunal Pandya, who delivered a match-winning spell. He dismissed Naman Dhir, Mitchell Santner, and Deepak Chahar in quick succession, ensuring RCB defended their total.

Key Takeaways

Bowling at Death: RCB’s bowlers, especially Krunal, held their nerve in the crunch moments.

RCB’s Batting Depth: Kohli, Patidar, and Jitesh’s contributions proved crucial in setting up a match-winning total.

Hardik’s Fightback: The MI skipper’s explosive knock kept his team alive, but lack of support from others cost them.
