A Chase to Remember

Gujarat Titans, batting first, posted a challenging 209/4, thanks to Shubman Gill’s 84 and Jos Buttler’s half-century. However, what followed was pure carnage as Vaibhav Suryavanshi, playing just his second IPL match, took center stage.

Opening the innings, the teenager showed no fear, smashing 28 runs off Ishant Sharma in the powerplay before tearing into Karim Janat for 30 runs in a single over. His fearless approach saw him reach his half-century in just 17 balls—the fastest of IPL 2025 and the second-quickest in Rajasthan Royals’ history.

The highlight of his innings came when he launched Rashid Khan for a monstrous six to complete his century off just 35 deliveries. He finished with an astonishing 101 off 38 balls, including 7 fours and 11 sixes, at a strike rate of 265.79. His heroics propelled RR to a dominant 8-wicket victory with 25 balls to spare.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s innings wasn’t just special—it was historic. Here are the milestones he achieved:

  1. Youngest Centurion in T20 & IPL History – At 14 years and 32 days, he surpassed Vijay Zol’s record to become the youngest player ever to score a T20 century.
  2. Fastest Fifty in IPL 2025 – His 17-ball fifty was the quickest this season and the fastest by an RR batter against Gujarat Titans.
  3. Most Sixes by an RR Batsman in an Inning – His 11 sixes equaled Murali Vijay’s record for most sixes by an Indian in an IPL match.
  4. Second-Fastest Century in IPL History – Only Chris Gayle’s 30-ball ton for RCB in 2013 was quicker.
  5. Highest Partnership for RR – His 166-run stand with Yashasvi Jaiswal became the highest-ever partnership for Rajasthan Royals.
  6. Highest Boundary Percentage in an IPL Century (93%) – A staggering 93% of his runs came from boundaries.
  7. Early IPL Century by an Indian – He became the earliest Indian batter (third innings) to score an IPL ton, surpassing Manish Pandey, Paul Valthaty, and Priyansh Arya.

What makes Suryavanshi’s innings even more remarkable is his composure under pressure. Despite playing just his second IPL game, he displayed maturity beyond his years, attacking world-class bowlers with ease. Even with a 38% false shot rate at the time of his fifty—only Ryan Rickelton had a higher error rate this season—his fearless intent paid off.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s century will be remembered as one of the greatest moments in IPL history. At just 14, he has shown that age is no barrier to greatness. As cricket fans celebrate the rise of a new superstar, the future of Indian cricket looks brighter than ever.

With such a phenomenal start, the world will be watching closely to see what this young sensation achieves next. One thing is certain—Vaibhav Suryavanshi is a name we’ll be hearing for years to come.
