Islamabad United’s Matt Short Exits PSL 2025 with Injury: Islamabad United’s campaign in the HBL Pakistan Super League (PSL) Season 10 has suffered a setback as Australian all-rounder Matt Short has been ruled out of the remainder of the tournament due to a recurrence of a previous injury.
Short, who had been recovering from an injury sustained during the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year, showed positive signs upon arriving in Pakistan. However, discomfort re-emerged during training sessions, leading to immediate medical evaluation. Islamabad United’s medical team, in collaboration with Cricket Australia’s (CA) medical staff, conducted a thorough assessment before deciding that withdrawing him from the tournament was the best course of action for his long-term fitness.
A joint decision was made between Islamabad United and Cricket Australia to prioritize Short’s recovery. As a result, the 27-year-old has returned to Australia to continue his rehabilitation under CA’s supervision.

Short’s absence is a significant loss for Islamabad United, as he was expected to play a key role with his explosive batting and handy off-spin bowling. The franchise will now look for a replacement to fill the void left by the Australian all-rounder.
Matt Short has been in impressive form in T20 leagues worldwide, including the Big Bash League (BBL), where he was named Player of the Tournament in BBL|12. His injury setback comes at a crucial time, with Australia’s T20 World Cup squad selection on the horizon. Fans and selectors will hope he makes a full recovery soon.
