Ireland to Build Landmark Cricket Stadium Near Dublin for 2030 T20 World Cup

Ireland to Build Landmark Cricket Stadium Near Dublin for 2030 T20 World Cup: Ireland intends to build a cutting-edge national cricket stadium at the National Sports Campus, which is located close to Dublin in Blanchardstown. The facility will play a pivotal role in hosting matches for the Twenty20 World Cup in 2030, an event Ireland will co-host with England and Scotland, the government announced on Wednesday.

The initial phase of the project, scheduled for completion in 2028, will feature a main stadium with a seating capacity for 4,000 spectators. Additionally, the development will include practice arenas and a high-performance centre, aimed at enhancing the sport’s infrastructure in the country.

Catherine Martin, Ireland’s Minister for Sport, expressed her delight at the rapid growth of cricket in Ireland. “It is really pleasing to see how the sport has grown, at all levels, in Ireland over recent years,” she commented. “A National Stadium and high-performance centre will provide Cricket Ireland with the facilities required to further grow participation numbers.”

Cricket Ireland’s CEO, Warren Deutrom, hailed the announcement as a landmark moment for the sport in the country, comparing its significance to Ireland’s elevation to full membership of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 2017. He stated, “It is a great tribute to all those involved in Irish cricket at all levels who have helped us get to this point where the government actually views us as a national sport deserving of significant investment.”

The new stadium is expected to bolster Ireland’s cricketing profile and provide a world-class venue for both domestic and international matches. With the government’s support, Cricket Ireland aims to leverage this facility to inspire a new generation of cricketers and elevate the sport to new heights in the country.
