ICC Revives Champions Trophy with Record Prize Money: The ICC Men’s Champions Trophy is making a much-anticipated comeback in 2025, marking its first return since 2017. This year’s tournament, set to be held in Pakistan for the first time since 1996, promises to be an exciting two-week event with matches taking place in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. The stakes are high, not just for the coveted trophy but also for the impressive prize money on offer.
The winning team will take home a cool $2.24 million, along with the trophy they’ll proudly lift on March 9. The runners-up won’t go home empty-handed either, earning $1.12 million. Even the semi-finalists will be rewarded, with each losing team pocketing $560,000. The total prize pool for the tournament has seen a significant boost, now standing at $6.9 million—a 53% increase compared to the 2017 edition.

Every match in the tournament carries weight, with each group stage victory adding over $34,000 to a team’s earnings. Teams finishing fifth or sixth will each receive $350,000, while those in seventh and eighth place will still take home $140,000. Additionally, all eight participating teams are guaranteed $125,000 just for competing, ensuring that every squad is rewarded for their efforts.

The tournament format will see the eight teams split into two groups of four, with the top two from each group advancing to the semi-finals. This structure ensures intense competition right from the start, as every match could be the difference between glory and an early exit.
The ICC Men’s Champions Trophy is set to become a regular fixture every four years, showcasing the top eight ODI teams in the world. Meanwhile, the Women’s Champions Trophy will debut in 2027, adopting a T20 format to further elevate the women’s game.
ICC Chair Jay Shah shared his excitement about the tournament, emphasizing its significance for the sport. “The 2025 Champions Trophy is a landmark moment for cricket, bringing back a tournament that celebrates the very best of ODI talent. Every match matters, and the increased prize money reflects our commitment to investing in the game and maintaining its global prestige. Beyond the financial rewards, this tournament will ignite fierce rivalries, captivate fans across the globe, and play a crucial role in ensuring cricket’s growth and sustainability for future generations.”
With so much at stake, the 2025 ICC Men’s Champions Trophy is shaping up to be an unmissable event for cricket fans worldwide.
