Wisden ranks Abdullah Shafique 160* as one of 2022’s best Test innings:
Abdullah Shafique, Pakistan’s young but promising opener, has, in a very little time, emerged as a pertinent part of Pakistan team in red-ball cricket. His performances since the start of his career, almost a year ago, have made him the perfect candidate to fill Pakistan’s void of an apt opener.
The highlight of his only 12 Test matches old career has to be his unbeaten knock against Sri Lanka at Galle which helped his team triumph on the rank-turner against the best spinners in the World. Rightly so, Wisden has ranked that knock of the 23 year old to be the 3rd Best Test innings of 2022, as the innings not only helped his side chase the target but also had the traits of a red-ball classical innings.

The special thing about Abdullah’s knock was that his stay on the field had been 524 minutes long which ended only when Pakistan won the match. This becomes even more special when batters’ poor average in Galle during 4th innings is kept in mind. Even the most diabolical tweaks by Sri Lanka’s turners could not harm Abdullah as he stayed on to score his career best figure and help his team clinch the victory from the jaws of the hosts.
