WIPL Base price, auction date and registration deadline revealed:
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), in a document titled ‘Guidance notes’ for the auction registration system shared with Indian players, unveiled the base prices for capped and uncapped Indian players. The base prices are divided into five categories as follows:
Capped players: (INR)
30 Lakh
40 Lakh
50 Lakh
Uncapped players: (INR)
10 Lakh
20 Lakh
Players who have represented the Indian team or are centrally contracted by the Board can choose between three categories as per their preference while uncapped players have two options to choose from. As confirmed by a BCCI official, the overseas players (both capped and uncapped) will choose a base price from the same categories. The deadline to get registered against the preferred base price, or as the document terms the reserve price, is 26th January 2023 at 11:30 AM GMT.
Although the document has not revealed the exact date for the auction, it shares that the event is likely to be held in February while the inaugural Women’s IPL or as it will be called as per the notes the women’s T20 league, is to be staged in March in Maharashtra, state of India. A tentative date for the auction is February 11, while the competition is expected to be played between 6th March and 26th March. The Indian Board of control, even, altered the women’s domestic calendar, which usually runs from November to April, to adjust the maiden season of its brainchild, the women’s T20 league.

The league is likely to be a five team tournament, however, the owners of franchises have not yet been finalized by the BCCI. The applications to bid for the rights to own a franchise in the inaugural season were earlier invited by the Indian cricket governing body, after which the board will decide who gets to bid for a team. Many franchises from the men’s IPL have expressed their interest to own a team in the women’s offshoot of the tournament. Some men’s IPL teams have even started eyeing players to rope in during the women’s IPL auction.
