Shan Masood to leave Derbyshire at the end of the 2022 season after turning down a contract extension:
The Derbyshire County’s in-form opening batter Shan Masood has decided not to sign a contract extension for the upcoming season. The left-hander reportedly obtained a better offer from an undisclosed rival county team.
The 32-year-old, who scored 1,774 runs for Derbyshire this season, has been among the top performers in county cricket. Although Derbyshire had presented “A much-enhanced offer,” Masood was unconvinced.
Mickey Arthur, the head of cricket for Derbyshire, stated that the other county’s offer “couldn’t be matched” by Derbyshire.
“When I joined the club last winter, bringing Shan to Derbyshire was my top aim,” Arthur continued. He has delivered the results in county cricket that I felt he was capable of, and we have been eager to extend his contract since the very beginning of the year.
“While it is understandably distressing to lose a player of his caliber, I and everyone at the club wish him the absolute best for the future,” the other counties “laid their stall out to bring in Shan.”
Masood acknowledged that leaving Derbyshire was a difficult choice for him. Talking about Derbyshire, Shan stated: “Derbyshire is a terrific club with a really positive approach and welcoming atmosphere. I anticipate the team fighting for trophies and achieving greater heights in the very near future under Mickey Arthur.”
