Shan Gets Maiden Call up as Pakistan Names Its World T20 Squad:
Shan Masood, the prolific top-order batsman, was chosen by chief selector Mohammad Wasim for Pakistan’s World T20 Squad on Thursday in Lahore.
Shan Masood earned his maiden call-up in the team for the shortest format in the 15-player World Cup roster.
Along with Mohammad Haris and Shahnawaz Dahani, Fakhar Zaman is one of the traveling reserves.
Wasim Junior has also made a comeback after fully recovering from the side strain he sustained during the Asia Cup. At the same time, Shaheen, who is in London receiving treatment for a knee ailment and is anticipated to start bowling again early next month, will join the team in Brisbane on October 15.
Up until October 15th, Pakistan can make squad adjustments without seeking clearance from the ICC’s Event Technical Committee.
The World Cup-bound team will compete in the T20I tri-series in Christchurch from October 7–14 with Bangladesh and New Zealand as the other competing before they arrived in Brisbane on October 15.
“Our team has the potential to compete well in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022. Because of this, we have maintained our faith and confidence in the nearly identical group of players who have been a part of the T20I squad following the 2021 World Cup in the UAE”, said chief selector Mohammad Wasim.
He claimed that Pakistan has won nine of their previous 13 T20Is because these players have performed well since November 2021. “We have made investments in these cricket players, therefore it is only fair that they receive the chance to prove themselves in the World Cup, an event for which they have been working hard to get ready”, Wasim added.
The Chief Selector further said that “We had to make sure that these guys had continuity and support, and we have done that.
“We are hearing good news about Shaheen Shah Afridi, who will probably start bowling again early next month.”
