Renowned Stars Register as LPL to have it’s First Ever Auction:
The Lanka Premier League (LPL) is set to hold its first-ever player auction for the fourth edition of the tournament, making it the third men’s T20 franchise tournament to do so, following the Indian Premier League (IPL) and SA20. Big names like Babar Azam, David Miller, Shakib Al Hasan, and Wanindu Hasaranga have already been signed by franchises since player registration opened last week.
Scheduled to take place from July 30 to August 20, the fourth edition of LPL will feature five competing franchises. Each franchise has a budget of $500,000 for the auction, which is set to happen on June 11. Over 500 players have registered for the auction, marking a significant milestone for the tournament. Additionally, this edition of LPL will be played in the intended July-August timeframe for the first time.
Franchises now have an increased budget of $500,000 to sign players before the auction, up from the previous season’s cap of $350,000. The tournament has already attracted renowned international cricket stars, with Pakistani captain Babar Azam among the notable signings. Teams will have a three-year contract with players, allowing them to retain or release players by mutual consent at the end of each season.
