Radford hopes that the PCB Pathway Programme will help him find another Babar Azam:
Toby Radford, who coached the West Indies batters to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup title in 2012, is impressed by the talent and natural ability of the batters at the Engro Cricket Coaching Program, which is part of the PCB Pathway Programme. The camp at the National High-Performance Centre (NHPC) in Lahore is in its final week.
Radford spent last week at the NHPC with Gordon Parsons (bowling coach), Julian Wood (power-hitting coach), Julien Fountain (fielding coach), and Nick Webb (strength and conditioning coach). Radford will take over as head coach of Pakistan Junior League team Rawalpindi Raiders at the end of the pathway camp.
Radford’s reputation as a world-class batting coach has grown. Radford has worked all over the world, including high-performance coaching in Bangladesh and the United Kingdom. He has also served as the head coach of the Glamorgan and Middlesex counties. The 50-year-old also served as England’s head coach at this year’s ICC U19 Cricket World Cup in the West Indies.
He stated that “I’ve always loved Pakistani cricket because of the players’ natural talent and flair. I’m excited to work with them. I’ve seen a lot of talent here.”
“We help them technically and with different formats. We hope to find another Babar Azam and sharpen his talent. What you do at the lower level builds any senior team worldwide.”
“Right now, we’re working on their batting and power-hitting skills for the Pakistan Junior League next month, but when I return, I’ll develop them for other formats.”
“It’s also about preparing batters to play well in alien conditions, so they can handle England’s swinging ball and Australia’s bounce.”
