All the details of Inaugural Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup released:
Women’s cricket is growing so fast and there are various initiatives that are unfolding for the women.
Recently, ICC released all the details of the inaugural edition of the Women’s Under-19 T20 World Cup.
The inaugural edition of the tournament will take place in South Africa from 14th January.
How many teams will participate in the tournament?
As many as 16 teams will partake in the T20 World Cup. Eleven teams got the automatically entry for the tournament:
Pakistan
India
England
Australia
South Africa
New Zealand
Ireland
Sri Lanka
Zimbabwe
The rest of the spots were filled by the teams who won the regional qualifiers that were held in June earlier this year.
Who qualified from the regional qualiferes?
UAE qualified through Asia qualifiers. Rwanda and Scotland made their way to the U-19 tournament as they cement their spot from Africa and Europe qualifiers, respectively. From EAP, Indonesia advanced to the next round. USA gained the last spot available as they are the only Associate nation eligible to compete under ICC’s Event Pathway Participation Criteria in the Americas region.
Format and Grouping of the teams:
The above-mentioned 16 teams are divided into four groups:
Australia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and USA are placed in Group A.
England, Pakistan, Rwanda and Zimbabwe belong to Group B.
Indonesia, Ireland, New Zealand and West Indies have occupied space in Group C.
While India, Scotland, South Africa and the UAE are in Group D.
A total of 41 matches will be played in the tournament. The top three from each group will make their way to the super-six round of the tournament as it will formulate the two group of six.
Then, the top two teams from each team will progress to the semi-finals of the tournament. The final of the mega-event will be played on 29th January at JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom.
