Home and Away format to be introduced in WPL Next Year:

The Women’s Premier League (WPL) has emerged as a successful venture for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), with the first season of the tournament receiving a positive response from fans and experts alike.

The BCCI is now looking at ways to expand the reach of the tournament and make it more accessible to cricket fans across the country.

One of the strategies being considered by the BCCI is the introduction of the home-and-away format in the WPL. This would allow teams to play matches in their home venues, which could help them build a stronger fanbase and increase the popularity of the tournament

The BCCI is also looking at ways to ensure that the tournament continues to grow sustainably.

“Well begun is half done. It has been a great beginning for WPL and going forward, it is going to be much better than what we have seen so far. We have started with five teams but going forward there is scope for additional teams given the pool of players that is going to come in the years to follow,” said Dhumal.

“We are hoping for an increase in the number of teams but for the coming three seasons will remain at five. We are surely looking at home and away format, we will see which time slot is available considering India’s international commitment and take a call.” he further added.

From a fan engagement point of view, we must go for home and away format,” Dhumal told PTI, as reported by India Today.

Another factor that the BCCI is taking into account is the scheduling of the tournament. A decision regarding the time slot of the WPL will be taken next year, to ensure that the tournament is scheduled at a time that is convenient for both players and fans. This would help to ensure the smooth running of the tournament and allow it to continue to grow in popularity.

“It has been a phenomenal ride so far and quite a challenging one given the time slot we had to start the WPL. We are satisfied with the way things have progressed, we did not have much of a window as the World Cup was there and the girls had just about a week to come back and start,” Dhumal acknowledged.

The success of the WPL has been a positive development for women’s cricket in India. The tournament has provided a platform for young and upcoming players to showcase their talent and has helped to raise the profile of the sport.

In conclusion, the BCCI’s plans to expand the Women’s Premier League through the introduction of the home-and-away format and the inclusion of more teams in the future, as well as careful consideration of the time slot, are positive steps towards the continued growth and success of the tournament.
