Asia Cup 2022: ‘I hit 100-150 sixes daily’ | Asif Ali Reveals:
Pakistan hard hitting middle order batter Asif Ali has uncovered that he hits 100 to 150 sixes in a day as he prepares for the Asia Cup 2022.
The hard-hitting batter will be in action for Pakistan in the forthcoming T20 competition beginning from August 27,2022.
However Pakistan failed to qualify for the final in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, yet he has a few recollections of it.
“It would be the one against New Zealand,” laughed Asif Ali when asked by the Pakistan Cricket Board. “I was under pressure coming into the match as I had not been able to option to perform in the past series and we were in a difficult situation. I was hit on my head [by a Southee bouncer] and was feeling a piece dizzy. But, I let myself know that I am here; fine and alive. Regardless of anything else, I will deliver for my team.”
Following an ideal 10-wicket victory over India, Pakistan wound up in a spot of mess with 48 required off 31 with half of their batters back in the pavilion. Asif Ali cut Trent Boult through point and crushed Tim Southee for consecutive sixes two overs later.
The surge would see Pakistan finish the game in the penultimate over with Asif crushing Boult for a six down long-on, putting the notable Sharjah Stadium ablaze and taking a double on the next delivery.
Tape-ball cricket played a significant part in Asif Ali’s power hitting development.
“It [batting in tape-ball cricket] is the best practice for hard-hitting,” he says, “As the ball swings and there is late swing too. You really want to have faultless offset and head position with pretty still feet to counter it. It also assists in fostering a good bat speed. Indeed, even today, when I return home, I play tape-ball cricket.”
