Russell and Holder Sit Out: West Indies Reveal T20I Squad for South Africa
Cricket West Indies has announced their 15-member squad for the upcoming three-match T20I series against South Africa. Notably, both Andre Russell and Jason Holder have been rested for the series, while Fabian Allen makes his return to the team.
Roston Chase has been named vice-captain following his impressive performances in the T20 World Cup. The squad presents a good mixture of youth and experience, featuring several promising young talents alongside seasoned campaigners. Missing from the squad are Brandon King and Kyle Mayers, while Johnson Charles retains his place, and the exciting addition of Alick Athanaze bolster the batting lineup.
The middle order is strengthened by the experienced duo of Shimron Hetmyer and Nicholas Pooran, along with Shai Hope and captain Rovman Powell. Sherfane Rutherford, who has performed admirably in recent matches, retains his spot in the squad.
In the bowling department, Gudakesh Motie and Akeal Hosein are the selected spinners, while the pace attack will be led by Shamar Joseph, who will be supported by Obed McCoy and Romario Shepherd.
West Indies narrowly missed out on a semi-final spot in the recently concluded T20 World Cup held on home soil and will be eager to prove their mettle against the World Cup runners-up, South Africa. The first T20I is scheduled for August 24th, with all matches to be played at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba.
