Some Major shocks as Bangladesh named Asia Cup Squad:
Bangladesh have announced 17 member squad for upcoming Asia Cup which will be led by Shakib Al Hasan after Tamim Iqbal step down from his position. Two young batters have been called up Tanzid Hasan Tamim and Shamim Hossain in the 17 member squad.
Both batters were part of the Bangladesh U19 team that won the World Cup by beating India in the final.Eventhough, Shamim has played 17 t20s but Tanzid is yet to make his debut in any format of the game for Bangladesh.
Both batters average around 28 in List A career but Tanzid have been picked on his recent good form in ACC Emerging Asia Cup, apart from a strong Dhaka Premier League (DPL) performance last season and Shamim got place due to his perfomance in T20s.
The big question the selectors faced in picking the Asia Cup squad was about the veteran Mahmudullah. He last played ODIs against England in March this year. He missed the ODI series against Ireland and the one against Afghanistan in July, with the selectors saying in March that he was being “rested”.
Mahmudullah however continues to be out of contention, as the likes of Shamim, Afif Hossain and Mahedi were considered ahead of him.
After being not considered for the Asia Cup it now makes even more difficult for the former skipper to be a part of World Cup squad.

On the other hand, Shakib Al Hasan will lead Bangladesh in both the events Asia Cup and World Cup. Shakib took over from Tamim Iqbal, who stepped down as the ODI skipper and also would not be a part of the Asia Cup due to injury. Shakib is currently the skipper across all three formats and BCB cheif said in a press conference that he will talks with Shakib once he returns from Sri lanka.
Bangladesh’s first game in the Asia Cup is against Sri Lanka in Pallekele on August 31.
