Massive Audience for Inaugural WPL | Becomes Global Success:
The first Women’s Premier League (WPL) final attracted the most viewership for any women’s event in history. Talking to the media Anil Jayray (CEO of Viacom 18 Sports) said,
“Our vision is to nurture the Tata WPL into the biggest women’s sporting league in the world, and this is a big leap in that direction. To see it already on its way to becoming the largest viewed sports event in the world in the first season is a remarkable feat and testament to the potential.”
He also thanked the advertising partners for the success saying,
“We’d like to thank our 50+ advertising partners that met us eye-to-eye on this vision, viewers who pushed us to raise the bar and deliver a world-class viewing experience.”
Jio Cinema reported that more than 10 million additional people saw the championship game between the eventual champion Mumbai Indians and the Delhi Capitals on March 26. In WPL 2023, the streaming service, recorded watch times of more than 50 minutes for each user per game.

Talking about the final game which gained massive viewership from all around the globe, Mumbai Indians beat Delhi Capitals by 7 wickets. Nat Sciver-Brunt’s match-winning innings of an undefeated 60 runs off 55 balls earned her the title of Player of the Match. Moreover, with 271 runs scored and 16 wickets taken, Hayley Mathews was named Player of the Series.
