Shahid Afridi opens up about selection of Shan Masood as a vice-captain:
Pakistan’s former chief selector Shahid Khan Afridi has opened up about the appointment of Shan Masood as the vice-captain of the Pakistan team during the New Zealand series.
Shadab Khan missed out from the series because he sustained a finger injury while playing the Big Bash League. Consequently, Shan was announced as his replacement.
However, this news did not settle well with the Pakistan cricket fans and experts as it created a stir on social media.
Recently, Afridi also opened up about this decision and said PCB’s governing body should have consulted the selection committee before taking such decisions.
Lala further stated that performances should be the criteria of selecting someone as the captain or vice-captain of the team.

“Shan Masood shouldn’t have been announced as the vice-captain. Shan wasn’t in the captain’s XI for the first 2 ODIs, nor was he in my XI. Performances are important. You can’t appoint a captain or vice-captain on the basis of performances for Derbyshire. He had also not played many ODIs for Pakistan, and there were senior players around, like Rizwan and Shadab. If you bring in someone who hasn’t performed or played a lot and make him the vice-captain, it affects the senior players who are playing,” said Shahid Afridi.
It should be noted here that Masood was not part of the playing XI for the first two ODIs. The opening batsman along with the PCB had to face massive backlash on social media after he was appointed as the deputy to Babar Azam in ODIs.
