Pakistan’s Big Test Reset Under Sarfaraz Ahmed: Pakistan’s red-ball setup is entering a new phase of preparation and intent, as newly appointed Test head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed oversees a structured high-performance training programme aimed at sharpening the team ahead of a demanding international schedule.

The 13-day camp, held at the National Cricket Academy, was designed to go beyond routine practice. Instead, it focused on building a well-rounded skill set suited to the evolving demands of modern Test cricket. Players were put through intensive sessions that combined technical refinement, tactical awareness, and physical conditioning—key pillars that Sarfaraz believes are essential for long-format success.

Speaking after the camp’s conclusion, Sarfaraz highlighted the importance of situational awareness in red-ball cricket. Training sessions incorporated match scenarios to help players think strategically under pressure rather than simply focusing on isolated skills. This approach reflects a shift toward smarter, more adaptive cricket, where decision-making is as critical as technique.

A notable feature of the camp was its personalized approach. Each player participated in one-on-one discussions with the coaching staff, allowing for targeted feedback and tailored improvement plans. Alongside performance coaching, players were introduced to updated fitness regimes and modern recovery practices. Medical experts also conducted sessions on nutrition and professional conduct, emphasizing the importance of discipline off the field as part of overall performance.

Seventeen players took part in the camp, including experienced Test names like Imam-ul-Haq, Noman Ali, and Sajid Khan, who used the opportunity to fine-tune their readiness. Younger players also benefited from exposure to a high-performance environment, bridging the gap between domestic cricket and the international stage.

This preparation comes at a crucial time, with Pakistan set to face Bangladesh in a two-match Test series that forms part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025–27 cycle. The series will begin in Dhaka before moving to Sylhet, presenting conditions that often challenge visiting teams.

The squad, led by Shan Masood, blends experience with emerging talent. Established players such as Babar Azam, Shaheen Shah Afridi, and Mohammad Rizwan are expected to anchor the team, while newer faces will look to make their mark.

Before departing for Bangladesh, the squad will regroup in Karachi for a short preparatory camp. However, scheduling remains dynamic, as players involved in the Pakistan Super League will join the team after completing their franchise commitments.

Overall, the NCA camp signals a clear direction under Sarfaraz Ahmed’s leadership—one that prioritizes preparation, professionalism, and adaptability. With a busy Test calendar ahead, Pakistan appears to be laying the groundwork for a more disciplined and competitive red-ball unit.
