Jemimah Rodrigues’ Heroics Fire India into Women’s World Cup Final: In a breathtaking semi-final at Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium, India pulled off one of the greatest run chases in women’s cricket history, defeating Australia by five wickets to storm into the Women’s World Cup final. Jemimah Rodrigues played the innings of her life, producing an unbeaten 127 that powered India to their record-breaking victory with nine balls remaining.

Australia’s Strong Start

After winning the toss, Australia chose to bat and piled up a formidable 338 all out. Phoebe Litchfield led the charge with a dazzling 119 off just 93 balls, blending elegant strokes with fearless aggression. She shared a commanding 155-run partnership with veteran Ellyse Perry, who struck a composed fifty to stabilize the innings. Ashleigh Gardner added a brisk 63 late in the innings to push the total beyond 300, though India managed to pick up quick wickets in the final overs to prevent an even larger score.

India’s Rocky Beginning

Chasing 339, India’s innings began with early trouble as Shafali Verma, returning from injury, fell cheaply for 10. The pressure mounted when Smriti Mandhana, India’s top run-getter in the tournament, was dismissed after a fluent 24. With the scoreboard reading 56-2, Australia seemed poised to defend their total.

Rodrigues and Harmanpreet Turn the Tide

Then came the partnership that changed everything. Jemimah Rodrigues, full of confidence and calm, joined captain Harmanpreet Kaur to forge a magnificent 167-run stand. The duo mixed controlled aggression with smart running between the wickets, dismantling the Australian attack. Harmanpreet looked set for a century before falling for 89 to Annabel Sutherland, but by then the chase was well within India’s grasp.

Historic Finish

Rodrigues continued unfazed, steering India home with a masterful display of strokeplay. Her 127 not out, laced with 14 boundaries, was a lesson in timing and temperament. Though Australia dropped her twice—on 82 and again on 106—Rodrigues made them pay dearly. When the winning runs came, the packed crowd erupted, celebrating India’s highest-ever successful chase in women’s ODI history.

With this victory, India not only ended Australia’s reign as world champions but also booked their spot in the final against South Africa. As the tournament’s most consistent batting side, India will now look to capture their first-ever Women’s World Cup crown on Sunday — a moment that could redefine the future of women’s cricket in the country.
