Zimbabwe Joins Pakistan & Sri Lanka for T20 Tri-Series | In a significant boost for international cricket in the country, Pakistan is set to host its first-ever T20 International tri-series this November. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has confirmed that Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka will be the participating teams in the tournament, designed as a crucial preparatory step for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.

The series, which will see a total of seven matches played, is scheduled to run from November 17 to November 29. The cricketing action will be split between two iconic venues: the Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium and Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium.

This tournament marks a welcome return for Zimbabwe, who have accepted the PCB’s invitation to compete. Their participation adds a compelling dynamic to the series, which was initially poised to include Afghanistan. The Afghanistan Cricket Board, however, recently communicated its inability to take part, paving the way for Zimbabwe’s inclusion.

Tournament Schedule and Format

The tri-series will kick off in Rawalpindi with a high-voltage opener between the home side, Pakistan, and Zimbabwe on November 17. Zimbabwe will then return to the same ground two days later to face the island nation, Sri Lanka.

Following these two initial clashes, the entire tournament will move to the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore for its remainder. The Lahore leg features a round-robin format where each team plays the others, building up to the grand final on November 29. The schedule for Lahore is as follows:

  • November 22: Pakistan vs Sri Lanka
  • November 23: Pakistan vs Zimbabwe
  • November 25: Sri Lanka vs Zimbabwe
  • November 27: Pakistan vs Sri Lanka

The top two teams from these league matches will then advance to compete for the trophy in the final on November 29.

A Strategic Step Towards the World Cup

Beyond the immediate excitement, this tri-series holds profound significance for all three nations. With the next T20 World Cup scheduled to be hosted by India and Sri Lanka, the tournament provides an invaluable opportunity for the teams to fine-tune their combinations, test their bench strength, and acclimatize to high-pressure situations in a competitive multi-team environment.

For Pakistan, it represents another milestone in their journey to bringing top-flight cricket back to the nation, offering fans a chance to witness an international tournament on home soil. For cricket enthusiasts, the November tri-series promises a thrilling spectacle of T20 action, setting the stage for the global tournament to follow.
